Leggings Sizing/Measuring for Leggings

Measuring for leggings

Leggings are skin-tight and form-fitting, so it’s important to get an accurate measurement when looking for the right sizes. The best way to do this is to get several measurements from different parts of the body.

Waist- Measure the waist by wrapping the measuring tape around the waist just below the navel. Pull the tape snug but not uncomfortably tight. Record the number in inches.

Hips – Measure the hips by wrapping the measuring tape around the widest part of the hips, usually at the lower third of the buttocks. Pull the tape snug, but not too tight. Record the number in inches.

Thigh – Wrap the measuring tape around one thigh at its widest point. Pull the measuring tape snug and record the amount in inches.

Calf – Wrap the measuring tape around one calf at the widest point and pull snug. Record the measurement in inches.

Ankle – Wrap the measuring tape around the ankle just above the ankle bone. Pull the tape snug and record the measurement in inches.

Leggings Sizing

Once you have the appropriate measurements, you can look them up on a standard sizing chart to find the right size. The sizing standards used for leggings sizes vary according to the manufacturer, but looking up a size before shopping/sewing can still be of great help in getting the right pair of leggings.

Leggings Length

Leggings can technically be found in any length that the manufacturer chooses to sell, either online or in retail stores. However, the most commonly sold lengths in leggings are capris, calf, and full length. The capris end just below the knees. The calf length ends at about mid-length on the calf, and the full length ends around the top of the ankle.
